SLSF 957, nee StLM&SE 271, Dickson Class of 1902 is an anachronism in this setting. She handling a cut of cars in the recently-built West Yards. The new Racor, switch stands and the squawk box are affectations of the modern yard and in the background we see the new diesel shop. Time is very short for the 957; she is the last active locomotive in the 956 Class, and during April 1950, she will join her sisters in the growing dead lines.
