Caboose 1284 Springfield, Missouri in October 1979.
This photograph was taken at the Frisco’s North Yard. The view is looking northeast from the North Jefferson Avenue Footbridge. In the lower left one can see the shadow of the south tower and the curving arch from the south stairs.
The footbridge was constructed in 1902 and is 562 feet long. It was originally constructed to permit access between the Commercial Street Business District (south end) and the residential neighborhood to the north.
Special thanks to Mark Davidson.
Also notice the string of refrigerated boxcars ahead of the caboose, that’s rare considering there were so few of them.
Bit of trivia-The last 1200-series caboose retired by BN wearing the R/W scheme was the 1284 in 9/91…
Good ID, Mark. “Only the shadow knows,” I suppose. And, interesting observation and trivia, Roger – thanks very much.
