E8A 2015 (Twenty Grand).
This is February 1950 at La Grange, and Twenty Grand is brand-spank’n’ new. Units 2007-2015 were delivered before the white border livery was devised.
Special thanks to Karl Brand.

Could this be an EMD Photo?
The original paint had a white border around the gold stripes on the front of the engine. This photo was probably taken in the early sixties after a new paint job.
I also believe this is a builder’s photo from LaGrange; I recall having a postcard of this in the 80s that indicated as much.
As I understand it – using Dr. Mike Condren’s Apri, 1985 “Paint Shop” article in the old Frisco Modeler’s Information Group (FMIG) newsletters, the scheme shown above was the scheme on the first 10 Frisco E8 units as delivered. Dr. Condren notes that “[t]his scheme may not have been used in revenue service for long if at all but official EMD and Frisco photos of the then new E-8 show no white outline. However, I have not yet seen a shot of an engine in this scheme coupled to a train.”
He further notes the gold whiskers with white outline appears to have been applied at delivery to the last 7 E8s that came from EMD, and that it was also the scheme applied at West Springfield when the E7 units were repainted.
