One Response to 4-6-0 629

  1. Karl Brand says:

The Frisco’s 629 – 633 class 4-6-0’s arrived 4 years after the merger with the Memphis Road, but were placed on the Memphis Road’s books. It was an accounting move that would be used on several occasions on subsequent locomotive purchases, which extended into the steam-to-diesel transition era. The NY Brake Equipment air pump, which is on the right side of the locomotive is an oddity, and I suspect that like sisters 631 and 632, she carried two pumps.

Reading between the lines in the diagram book, it appears that the 629 was converted from her original coal burning configuration to oil, then back to coal, and then finally back to oil.
