Sayre, Pennsylvania; just south of the New York State line, was near the midpoint of the Lehigh Valley RR’s Jersey City-Buffalo, NY main line. Sayre was also the location of the LVRR’s locomotive shops, a major yard and division point on the railroad.
The LVRR ceased to exist on April 1, 1976, when its assets were absorbed into Conrail. Like the “Frisco”, the LVRR is fondly remembered by many folks in the region it served. Today, few traces of the LVRR’s presence in Sayre remain.
