SLSF had three distinct groups of U25Bs. The initial order (800-807) were high-nosed units; 804-807 were originally GE demonstrators. The second group, numbered 808-815, were low-nose, but were built early enough to have the single-piece windshield. At some point, GE discontinued the one-piece windshield in favor of the two-piece windshield seen here on SLSF 820. The third group, SLSF 816-831 all were delivered with two-piece windshields. I’m speculating here, but GE may have gone to the two-piece windshield to reduce replacement cost in the event of breakage or because the smaller glass panels were easier to install in the first place.
