So is that combine a buffer car, a deadhead move, or was it carrying passengers and mail?

Whatever is was doing (deadhead etc.), it’s a similar relic to the baggage-coach combine that was being pulled by 4-6-2 1056 a few days ago in the archive. Those wooden cars look like those vintage HO “craftsman kits” from early model railroading days.
