B30-7 867, U30B 845, U28B 811, GP38-2 461 and GP38AC 636 at Tulsa, Oklahoma (date unknown) (Trackside Slides).

This photograph was taken at Cherokee Yard. The subject locomotives are pulling a train entering the eastern most arrival and departure (A&D) track. The four A&D tracks on this side of the yard complex were added as part of a modernization and expansion program after the hump yard was originally constructed.

The train is bound timetable east (geographic north/northeast at this point). In the distance, the microwave tower above the third locomotive, U25B 811, is immediately south of the yard office and hump crest tower. The light tower visible above the cab of second locomotive, U30B 845, is immediately north of the hump secondary retarders tower.

The photograph was taken very near the intersection of West 31st Street and Service Road. This is just west of the Red Fork Expressway, Interstate 244/U.S. 75, between highway mile posts 2 and 3. To the south of this point, the road visible in the lower left hand corner leads to the Cherokee Yard Office with hump tower.

Rising in the distance beyond the yard is Lookout Mountain. On this hill Tulsa television station KTUL Channel 8, the local ABC affiliate, has their broadcasting studio and offices.

The view is looking west.

Special thanks to Mark Davidson.

Bridge 25.6 is 609 feet long and 70 feet high. The train is eastbound, and it’s just a couple of miles east of Eureka, Missouri. The area is more infamous for being near Times Beach. The Missouri Pacific bridge in the background.
