RS2m 553

RS2m 553 at Springfield, Missouri (date unknown).
This was shot at the West or Kansas Avenue Yard. The locomotives are sitting on the diesel pocket track east of the Springfield Diesel Shop. The pocket was used for longer term storage of locomotives to be repaired in the shop.
Behind the locomotives is the lead to the West Shops area/Clinton Subdivision (known as the High Line). The track in the foreground is the lead to the service tracks area and further west the diesel shop.
Sitting to the west of the subject locomotive is GP7L 527. It still retains its fully striped paint. To the east of the subject locomotive is Frisco (sub-lettered AT&N) RS1 109.
The view is looking north.
Special thanks to Mark Davidson.

RS-1 109 at Springfield, Missouri (date unknown).
The location is the diesel pocket track east of the Springfield Diesel Shop. This is near the bulk sand storage tank and unloading shed. The track to the north, behind the engines, is the High Line. Today, the “new” turntable sits further to the northeast.

FA-1 5209

FA-1 5209 at Van Buren, Arkansas on April 6, 1964 (Mike Condren).
The train is railroad northbound (geographically northeast at this spot). The photo was taken from near 11th Street and its intersection with Cedar Street. This is a block east and two blocks north of the Frisco’s Van Buren depot. At this location the train is just beyond the north turnout for the depot passing track.
The brick building over the FB-1 units is the rear of the gymnasium of today’s Butterfield Trail Middle School.

FA-1 5217

FA-1 5217 at Tulsa, Oklahoma on July 1, 1962 (Mike Condren).
At this time the Frisco’s Cherokee Yard diesel service facilities still included the old roundhouse and its 100 foot turntable. These would be replaced in 1974 when a new metal diesel shop and service tracks were constructed.
Special thanks to Mark Davidson.
