Location is Monett, Missouri.
The locomotive is sitting in the Mechanical Department’s service tracks area. This area is at the west end of the yard, south of the main line and west end yard lead tracks, east of the new replacement metal depot at mile post 282.0, MP 282.0. The replacement depot is located south of the former passenger depot which stood north of the main tracks at 403 Front Street. The distinctive sand tower with H-shaped riveted support beam dates from the former steam era facilities at this location.
Locomotive rooftop features include steam generator equipment (exhaust stack and air intake), amber signal light, Leslie air horn and flared exhaust stack spark arrestors. This profile shot also shows many of the rooftop hatch lift ring eyes. Cab side details include a canvas sunshade and a large rectangular glass wind deflector.
In the distance on the left of the image is the Kay Concrete Materials Company facility located at 501 Kay Drive, Monett, Missouri 65708. This ready-mix concrete company was started in the city in 1964. Additional facilities were added in Aurora (1968), Mt. Vernon (1968), Republic (Billings) (1983), Sarcoxie (1985) and three miles south of Monett is a rail served sand plant. The sand plant is located at 845 South Farm Road 2035 on the Ft. Smith Subdivision.
