I’m thoroughly intrigued by the bit of rolling stock just off to the left of 290’s pilot; it looks like some sort of bulk storage containers in a gondola. Anyone have any insight or thoughts on this critter?
Christopher,
Those are rubber bladders containing plastic pellets loaded onto a gondola. The bladders were loaded onto specially equipped flatcars or gondolas with cradles which allowed the bladders to seat properly for movement. The car lettering indicates this car was owned by Bakelite Plastics.
