  1. This has to be one of my favorite images posted in the ‘Frisco Archives’. Look at the rust on the panel sides. It even looks like some welding has been done. Dirt/oil on the trucks, front, and top.

    We used these in switching more times that I like to remember. Most engineers had a mirror mounted on a clip board that they would put on the wing vent so they could look back with out trying to stick their head out the cab window. If you had engine problems, on an engine in your consist, when you got back to the cab you could forget about hearing a normal conversation. What I did like about them was that the crew set high enough off the ground to offer some protection if you had a grade crossing accident.
