The subject locomotive is sitting on the east side of the Springfield Diesel Shop. Just above the locomotive’s rock pilot is the lead to the Consolidated Freight Car Shops or West Shops and Clinton Subdivision (the High Line). In the background is the main parking lot for shop employees.

To the east of the photographer is the overpass for Kansas Avenue. The view is looking to the north/northwest.
