Location is Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
The locomotive is in East Yard adjacent to the roundhouse complex at the east end yard. The foundation and inspection pits of the old roundhouse are visible in satellite images east of the repair in place (RIP) track shop, south of the North Canadian River. These facilities were closer to South High Avenue than the later successor diesel locomotive shop that was built near the west end of the yard.
Locomotive SLSF 5001 is a General Motors (GM) Electro-Motive Division (EMD) F3A phase IIb. The locomotive features several changes since it was delivered. These include a multi chime air horn on the roof, an added front sill step and grab irons leading to the nose, modified side skirts below the side sill to improve underframe access and roller bearing equipped trucks.
