    HI All,

Does anyone happen to have a track chart showing the layout of Galloway and Ozark as they would have appeared during the 1970s?

I have been doodling sketches for an Ozark Branch layout again, and I realized I never have found a track layout for these two locations.

I have a pretty good handle on how things were laid out on the rest of the branch, and an industry list that Ron Williams provided a few years ago, but no drawings of the prototype locations.

    Thanks,

    Paul

John Sanders wrote a real nice illustrated article about the Ozark Branch or Chadwick Line in one of the last All Aboard magazines from the Frisco Museum.

Maybe someone here knows which volume and number that is?

    Hi Tom,

I have that article. It is in the following link.

    http://condrenrails.com/Frisco/Frisco-Museum-All-Aboards/AA2001.v14.2.pdf

It covers the improvements of the Ozark Branch up to the City Utilities James River Power Plant, so the power plant could take 100 ton hoppers.

Ozark is not covered in the article other than to say there were no improvements past the power plant.

There are not any detailed track plans included in the article.

Well the article you posted inspired me to go out and see what most of this looks like in 2009. :)

First photograph is the MK Junction - from John Q Hammons Parkway, Sherman Street, and East Phelps Street looking West.

Second photograph is the MK Junction looking East.

Third photograph is the Ozark Branch on the right.

If you go to Google Maps and start at Lake Springfield you can see and follow the right of way in both directions.

    Been there - done that:).

I even traced the line to Chadwick, and it has been gone from Ozark to Chadwick since the 1930s. :D

    The trees give it away.

    Great. :)

I will be tracing Ozark to Chadwick on my next visit mainly looking for right of ways.

Unfortunately, there is not much left.

The depot area in Ozark is a car wash.

Part 6 - On the way to Cassidy, MO. :)

South of the power plant there is not much to see. Most of that section is on private property. Once you hit Cassidy, MO things start to look up.

Photograph 1 - Looking southeast from Missouri CC Highway and Fremont Road. This section heads over to 22nd Street / Air Park Road. Most of this road did not exist when this line segment was abandoned.

Photograph 2 - Looking into the Tracker Boat plant, owned by Bass Pro Shops. From here to the depot site you can see some of the roadbed, but it does not photograph well due to the underbrush.

The Ozark depot site. See the links below of the depot.

Photograph 3 - Looking southwest at the Ozark depot site at North 10th Street and West Farmer Street. Currently it is a carwash.

Photograph 4 - Same spot looking northeast towards the gas station and the next bit of roadbed.

Photograph 5 - Looking northeast over Missouri 14 Highway, West Jackson Street, towards the Finely River. Shows a the roadbed under heavy brush to the right, and a bridge support to the far left between the trees.

Photograph 6 - All that remains of the bridge over the Finely River. This portion of the line was remove in the 1930s from here south to Chadwick, MO.

See links below of the old bridge over the Finely River.

Photograph 7 - The old mill east of the bridge over the Finely River. The mill still has its siding, the only rail left in Ozark, MO.

Photograph 8 - Finely River dam and bridge. And finally an old postcard of the Finely River, mill, railroad bridge, and wagon bridge

    paul,

Amazingly, a lot of the roadbed is also visible.

It is visible from U.S. 65 Highway just south of Tracker Boats in Ozark, MO.

Also in Sparta, MO right at the curve towards the high school.
