Please see the following link for a view of the Lenexa, KS depot. http://www.depotmaps.com/Images/DepotKS/LenexaKS.jpg Originally the depot's agent / operator bay faced southeast. The original address was in the 13450 block of Santa Fe Trail Drive (a/k/a Old Kansas City Road), just northeast of the intersection with Pflumm Road. The depot has been relocated to a city park away from the tracks and operated by the Lenexa Historical Society. The current depot address is 14907 West 87th Street Parkway, Lenexa, KS. Hope this helps. Thanks! Mark

Lenexa, KS depot. In 1909, construction of its railroad depot was a 40' by 20' frame combination station. Old picture of the Lenexa, Depot All Aboard Vol. 2 No. 6, page 2 of 4. http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index.php?attachments/aa1987-11-v2-6-pdf.37633/ Down At The Depot The Lenexa depot was officially listed as Station No. C14 on the Kansas City Subdivision of the Northern Division. Shortly after its construction, sixteen passenger trains would either stop or pass by on a daily basis. In 1960, fifty years later, the volume of trains had been reduced to a daily schedule of only six. The last passenger train passing by Lenexa was the Southland. Following the Frisco-BN merger in 1980, the old wooden depot was replaced with a smaller metal building.
The last passenger train that served Lenexa was the Sunnyland. The Southland did not stop. The 1909 depot was replaced with a brick structure. During 1987, the 1909 depot was moved to a city park. All these details may be posted elsewhere on the site. Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park Edit 3/28/2024: The park address with the Frisco Lenexa, KS depot is 14907 West 87th Street Parkway, Lenexa, KS 66215. Karl, We have to assign you to edit the All-Aboards. Finding specific depots in All Aboard magazines is nearly impossible. There are about 144 issues. I do not know of a cross reference. Is there a cross reference available? I have found some Forum depot names have more than one posting, with some that have the same pictures. Edit 3/28/2024: Duplicate depot posts have been consolidated by station name, with subdivision(s) and mile post. MKD
Frisco 4-4-0 SLSF 228, Rhode Island Locomotive Works later (ALCO) class of 1903 and a southbound passenger train, perhaps number 101, the Kansas City-Joplin train, arrives at Lenexa, KS. This is the first Lenexa depot. This depot was destroyed by fire during the evening of November 27, 1908. The negative does not have a date, but since the Frisco replaced the Memphis Road depot in the photograph with a new Frisco standard plan depot in 1909, we can date the photograph between 1903 and 1908. The Frisco retired 4-4-0 SLSF 228 during September 1934. Negative my collection. Edit 3/28/2024: Note the tracks to the right of the depot. This is the Missouri and Kansas Interurban Railroad. It was also known as the Strang Line Interurban Railroad. It ran from Kansas City, MO through Wyandotte and Johnson Counties. The route included depots in Mission, KS, downtown Overland Park, KS, Lenexa, KS to suburban Olathe, KS. The railroad was named after its primary promoter, a Johnson County real estate developer, William B. Strang, Jr. The interurban railroad operated from 1906 until July 9, 1940. The electrified railroad's car barn and a depot still stand in Overland Park. Note the pole line to the east of the tracks. View looking north northeast. MKD
There is an index that was created by Chris Abernathy, tag line yardmaster. Just go to the Frisco Modelers Information Group (FMIG) and All Aboard newsletters forum.
Just admiring that great photograph in detail. I would guess closer to 1903! That locomotive and tender look pretty shiny - like "almost new". What a shame that the signal post was there. Is that wood in the tender?
Sherrel, The object which blocks the view of the locomotive is the mail crane. The mail crane nest to the northbound east main track is set with a mail bag for Kansas City, MO. The locomotive was a coal burner.
