VO-1000m 227 at Springfield, Missouri in May 1963 (Vernon Ryder).  The m designates that this Balwin VO-1000 has had its prime mover updated to an EMD 567C.

    SLSF 227 is a standard VO1000. This unit is a two stack variation which may have lead to some confusion. Frisco’s VO1000s came in 1, 2 and 4 exhaust stack variations. However, the hood over the engine compartment clearly shows typical Baldwin configuration, including vents, number boards, etc.

    It was not repowered by EMD like its sister units 200, 201, 202, 203, 204, 205, 206, 210 and 215. Only after repowering should these specific units be designated VO1000m (modified). Repowered units had new engine compartment hoods, with distinctive EMD characteristics.
