Look at eBay listing 230873019970, a nice slide photograph of caboose SLSF 1200. It is the class unit of the Frisco extended or wide vision caboose fleet, renumbered from its original number caboose SLSF 200. What kind of truck is this puppy sitting on? Do not know if I have seen this truck before. Sure enough, this truck is on several other photographs I have of caboose SLSF 1200. But, not on its new delivery photograph as caboose SLSF 200, which had the standard truck found on this series of Frisco caboose. I do not know what its name is. This different truck must have been some Frisco experiment of a different type after caboose 200 - SLSF 1200 was in service. Got to do some research! Ken
Ken, That is a screaming strange if not weird looking truck its riding on. Do not remember seeing those anywhere. Tom Holley
I believe that those are Rockwell LMF trucks. The Kansas City Southern (KCS) or Haywire used them on its stainless steel bay window cabooses.
Yep, Rockwell High Speed trucks. On Overland Models web site, they show the same caboose on a different date, angle, etc. and a photograph in a collection from some guy named Rick. ;-)
Yep, sounds correct. I see on the internet that it is indeed a Rockwell Hi-Speed truck, and that the Kansas City Southern (KCS) also used them. Overland Models makes them in HO-scale. I have several photographs of caboose SLSF 1200, not as caboose SLSF 200, with those trucks underneath. Never noticed that until I saw the photograph on eBay today. You learn something every day! Sort of reminds me of the Alco Blunt diesel locomotive switcher truck in appearance. Ken
Caboose SLSF 1200 Regarding the photograph of caboose SLSF 1200 on The Frisco Archive, this reminds me a lot of the photograph of caboose SLSF 239 at Rolla, MO in 1968 by Mike Condren. Please see the following link. http://condrenrails.com/Frisco Catalog/Caboose.htm I would guess that maybe this was "cut" and "pasted" from another piece of rolling stock? Roger Taylor also has some photographs of caboose SLSF 1200 in its BN days showing some interesting quilt work appearances. Best Regards,
