Passenger Service
The Manitou and
Southwestern operates passenger trains according to the Frisco 1931 passenger
timetable.
The Manitou and
Southwestern, operated by the Frisco, books sections on the Texas Express
passenger train between Enid, Oklahoma and Vernon, Texas in each direction. The
M&SW timetable schedules the southbound train 609 to depart from
Enid at 12:20 p.m. and to arrive at Vernon at 7:45 p.m.. The northbound train 610 departs
Vernon at 6:30 a.m. and arrives at Enid at 1:45 p.m.. The average speed of the Texas
Express is 35 m.p.h.
Freight Service
The M&SW operates a
daily freight train in each direction. The timetable shows that southbound local 667
departs Snyder at 7:45 a.m. and arrives at Vernon at 10:40 a.m.. The northbound local 668
departs Vernon at 1:30 p.m. and arrives at Snyder at 4:45 p.m.. The average speed of the
freights is 15 m.p.h..
Freight set outs and
pickups are generated using a Albion Software's Shipit program. Since the
layout isn't very large, it isn't much of a problem to update the computer with daily
movements of revenue cars.
Staging occurs
in two yards, one hidden and one on the layout proper. The northern yard is called Snyder
and the southern yard (hidden) is called Vernon. Staging yard capacity is about 30 cars.
Operating sessions
include one freight in each direction (North & South) operating on an eight hour
clock.
