What was the coonskin leaning against the wall used for?

Rich, I was wondering the same thing. I was wondering if it were some sort of painting template for a rolling stock, bridges or what-not, but it almost looks like it’s rusting cast-iron. Interesting mystery!

I could be a template to make a mask cut out, or a routing guide for a stone mason or one half of matching half for a sand mold or it could be none of the above.
