I wonder if this image could be older than circa 1893. The “Number One” still has link and pin couplers, which were outlawed by the Safety Appliance Act 1893. She also lacks air and an electric system. The Number One was renumbered to 1641 and then to 3641. It was retired March 23, 1914
Karl,
Who was the manufacturer of this locomotive?
Baldwin Class of 1881
Thank you!
The “Number One” was built by Baldwin during 1881, and at the time it cost the Frisco $8901.53. The “Number One” and her sister, “Number 2” were the first 0-6-0’s on the Frisco. The locomotive weighed 73,520lbs, and the tender, which carried 3 tons of coal and 2300 gallons of water, weighed 50,480 lbs. She had a grate area of 20 square feet and a total heating surface 1029.5 square feet. The boiler pressure was 145 psi; her machinery, 17” x 24” cylinders and 50” drivers, generated 16500 lbs. of tractive force.
