Note the “transition” livery. The cat whiskers and the side stripe are in the metalichrome (gold), but the horse name and the road name are in yellow. I believe that during the mid 50’s the Frisco simplified the Redbird livery, by discontinuing the white outline. By the late 50’s, I believe that the Frisco in order to save costs, removed the metalichrome from its paint inventory, and replaced the metalichrome with “yellow”. As the units came into the shops for work and touch-up painting, the unit would leave with a mix of metalichrome and yellow. A look through the Frisco literature will show numerous examples of this transition livery.
