One Response to Fairbanks-Morse – A Name Worth Remembering

  1. walkermert says:

Fairbanks-Morse was 3rd to EMD and American Locomotive Co. in diesel production from the mid-1940s through the early 1950s. Their switchers (H-10-44 and H-12-44) were their most popular units and were often praised for their reliability. Likely F-M’s unique opposed-piston design was their undoing — they were just too different from their competitors and railroad mechanical departments didn’t want to deal with them.
